What can a MA in FinTech lead to?

Master in Financial Technology at a French University

The University of Rennes1, in association with other major European universities will launch its first ever Master in FinTech (Financial Technology) programme in September 2020. The focus of this MA programme is on acquiring expertise in the field of Data Management, and for this reason, students who apply for this course have a sea of options in terms of careers they can embark on once they graduate.

Why FinTech?

There are various reasons as to why a career in Financial Technology can be fruitful however, the main reasons are the following:

  1. Data Management, especially in Financial Technology, is useful for a wide range of fields and sectors
  2. Financial Technology is the Future, whatever the field your students are interested in working in
  3. FinTech is useful for business but also for personal finances
  4. FinTech is useful to help companies, business owners and consumers to manage their financial operations, processes, and lives more efficiently by utilizing specialized software and algorithms.

Apart from the fact that the Master in FinTech Programme opens up many career doors to students, as a University, the EIT Digital Department within the University of Rennes1, will ensure that students will have the unique opportunity to work together with the industry at early stages of their studies through company internships. This involvement will allow them to know the financial and technological needs of the public and private sectors, and positively impact the ICT ecosystem. In case students prefer to follow an academic track, they will be able to do research in major industrial R&D centres as well as to complete a PhD programme.

A formative MA Programme

Throughout these two years students can expect to be trained as the new generations of computer scientists that will develop the emerging sector of Financial Technology. They will also learn how to feed the ecosystem through innovative activities, research and original technological solutions in key areas, such as digital finance.

Apart from the academic side, this course also has a very valid hands-on aspect. In fact, students will have the unique opportunity to work together with the industry at early stages of their studies through company internships. This involvement will allow them to know the financial and technological needs of the public and private sectors, and positively impact the ICT ecosystem in the Rennes Cluster and the great number of companies focusing on FinTech technologies in this city.
